About Us
At La Carreta Pura Vida, our name pays homage to the iconic symbol of Costa Rican craftsmanship and culture: La Carreta de Sarchí. Originating from the picturesque town of Sarchí, known for its vibrant hand-painted oxcarts, La Carreta represents a blend of tradition, artistry, and community. These meticulously crafted oxcarts have been a symbol of Costa Rica's agricultural heritage and are recognized worldwide for their beauty and craftsmanship.
Inspired by the spirit of "Pura Vida," a quintessential Costa Rican philosophy meaning "pure life," we embody this ethos in our culinary offerings and hospitality. Pura Vida encompasses the idea of embracing life's simple pleasures, fostering a laid-back attitude, and appreciating the beauty of nature and community. It's about living in the moment and finding joy in the little things.

AmThe food here is absolutely amazing! Located in the Pine Street Market, one of my favorite places. I've had empanadas (corn dough), the chicken casados plate, and gallo de salchichon. The empanadas are insanely fresh, crispy, and tasty. The sausage in the gallo de salchichon might be the best I've ever had due to its flavor and the unique way it is cut and cooked. I'm also OBSESSED with the salad that comes with most dishes, which has cabbage, pico de gallo, and thousand island dressing. Oh, and the tamales are also among the best I've had, the banana leaves they are steamed in impart amazing flavor. Above all, the people who work here are genuine and authentic, and definitely cook with love.
I’m surprised this place doesn’t have more ratings. The empanadas are corn based (I can’t eat wheat) and they are phenomenal. The tamales are Costa Rican style, meaning they are wrapped in a banana leaf rather than a corn husk. This imparts a different flavor and moister texture. They are fantastic as well. Highly recommend!
Amazing family run food cart with authentic Costa Rican food. Everything is fresh and tastes like you're eating at someone's kitchen table. Tamales were moist and flavorful.
